Christy began riding at the age of 5. She rode and showed competitively in the hunters and jumpers throughout college. She stopped briefly to get married and start a family, to return to the horse world in 2000 with kids in tow, and resumed teaching. She brings over 20 years of experience and teach riders of all levels and ages. She started many students as beginners and has brought them along carefully through the ranks. Many of her riders have garnered local series and year end awards and a group of them have gone on to qualify and pin nationally at Zone II hunter Finals in Harrisburg, Marshall and Sterling Finals at HITS Saugerties and USEF Pony Finals in Lexington, KY.
Christy's philosophy is simple. First and foremost, every student should be taught with safety in mind. Secondly, they should have fun while they are at the barn, in the ring and with the horses. Even the most focused competitor should be doing it because they LOVE TO, not because they feel they HAVE TO. Lastly, every student should walk away feeling that they learned something new or that they are a step closer to mastering a skill they have been working on. Those three things are the key to a happy and successful rider. Riding is and can be for everyone, whether riding just for pleasure, or if you have your sights set on riding competitively.
Christy is Red Cross First Aid and HAS certified, a member of USEF and USHJA.
